Would Jeff Van Gundy Consider Knicks Team President Role?

As the New York Knicks suffer another lost tonight, by the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans at home and now have a 17-21 record, with the fact that Knicks team president Phil Jackson can opt out of his contract this year, I'm already looking toward the future.
I was a big Jackson supporter, just like every other Knick fan. How can't you be with the resume he has and the horrid the Knicks have been through in the past couple of seasons, a guy like Phil Jackson taking over is someone we'd bring in with open arms and kisses.

But since his time as Knicks team president, nothing has changed. If Jackson left the Knicks, the only two things he'll be remember as is his time playing with the Knicks, when he won championships, and the other would be: drafting Kristaps Porzingis. As for everything else, we it comes to having winning seasons, he hasn't one so far.

Drafting Porzingis could turn out to be a memorial move, by Phil. Porzingis could very well become the Knicks superstar for years to come. BUT...the Knicks aren't winning. You can draft whoever and whatever you want, it always comes down to winning when it comes to Knick fans.

With a 17-21 record on January 9th, an aging Carmelo Anthony making over $20 million dollars a year and point-guard in Derrick Rose who went missing without advising his team, Jackson opting out of his $12 million per year contract wouldn't be out of the question.

So let's rush judgment, for fun. Let's say Jackson opts out of his contract after this season, which he can. Who'd be the Knicks new team president?

How about Jeff Van Gundy.

It was a name that just suddenly popped from nowhere. If the Knicks needed someone to replace Phil Jackson as team president, why not a man who was here with the Knicks, the last time they were actually good -- and never became that good again, when he left.

Now, would Gundy accept this role? I think he would. He'd love to comeback to the Knicks; he'd love to coach again, but with they've fired so many coaches already that I think they'd like to stat with the current coach Jeff Hornacek. Although Gundy would love to be part of the Knicks, again.

Gundy would be perfect. Not only Knick fans love him but he'd gain a significant respect from other players. In free agency he could get free agents to sign with the Knicks. I thought that would happen with Jackson, but I think his method is already out dated and players don't like to be told what to do or how to play (in the triangle).

Gundy has gained respect more with time as an ESPN commentator, with his comedic personality and immense intellect to the game. He gained popularity outside of New York City, in the NBA world, as commentator.

With Gundy taking over, he'd change the face of the Knicks. He'd bring a welcoming feeling around the league, when it comes to free agency and he'll let Hornacek coach. Unlike now with Jackson basically pulling the strings on Hornacek.

It's a stretch. But why not? Jeff Van Gundy as Knicks team president? I like the sound of that.
