SNL's Two Premier Reviews: MacFarlane & Gordon-Levitt

September 23, 2012

I wanted to do last weeks season premier of Saturday Night Live last week with Seth MacFarlane hosing, but I got caught up in doing my Yankees.

When I first heard about MacFarlane hosting, I didn't care much. Because -- first of all -- I don't know much of him. All I know is that he does "Family Guy". I never knew he actually acted. And I also thought the was English...for some reason.

But he made me know him after that performance. He was brilliant. MacFarlane looked like a veteran at SNL. Some newbies hosting SNL for the very first time, seem to struggle. Even establish actors and actresses sometimes look lost at a SNL segment. Not MacFarlane. He was cool, calm and collected; and again -- looked like a veteran. He was reading the lines smoothly, and doing different types of voices at the same time.

My Favorite MacFarlane Skit: Everyone's favorite was the Ryan Lochte segment, and it was hilarious. I felt like an idiot when he called the show "Go On" -- "Goon", lol, because I actually thought it was called 'Goon'. I was dying with laughter and felt like an idiot at the same time. And the way MacFarlane said "Goon", no one could have said it better. It just sounded perfect.

SNL should bring back MacFarlane because he can play so many types of people. Although, if they do bring him back, I don't if t'll be as good as this one was. Just for the fact that it was the season premier and they had to go all out for it, to open up the season with a bang. So I don't think it'll be as good -- maybe I'm wrong.

Every skit of the MacFarlane SNL had you laughing. There was not one sleeper skit, or a 'change the channel' skit. All of them was can't miss. It was one of the best SNL shows I haven't seen in a very long time. Excellent.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Of course, he can't do the things MacFarlane can do, but he was still very good, hosting last night's SNL.

Josephy Gordon-Levitt was pretty funny, and he gave his all in every segment. Levitt doesn't have the comedic feel, but he gave every segment his all.

Last night's show wasn't great like last weeks, but it was good enough. I like how they opened up with a Kelly Ripa, Michael Strahan skit. You normally don't see a skit like that, open SNL. They usually open with a presidential skit.

Bill Hader: Wow, he's being used more than the Yankees relief pitcher Boone Logan.

I notice that Hader is in every skit, now. I think part of that, is because they don't have Kristen Wiig, anymore. They need Hader to work extra, since he's there best. I know Fred Armisen is better, but he's older and Hader is second best and younger.

Cecily Strong: She is hot. She's a new cast member...and HOT ! And very talented. Cecily Strong looks like she's been doing SNL for years, how calm she is. Strong was great in that hispanic skit on the "Weekend News Update" with Seth Myers. Speaking from a part latino, she played a latino chick to perfection. I thought for second she was spanish. Very good.

Two great openings to SNL, in their first two weeks. Bad thing -- next Saturday will be a rerun.

I will watch this Thursday's special.
