Williamburg, Brooklyn rebirths Movie Theater

It's been ten years since my beloved Williamsburg, Brooklyn has seen a movie theater on it's own streets ... And for my Brooklynites - the days of traveling to Manhattan to see a movie, is now over.

Today, Brooklyn, NY welcomed the opening of "Williamsburg Cinemas".

Since the 1970's, us Brooklynites once had our own movie theater called the "Commodore Cinemas".

It was nothing like the movie theaters, today. Yea, it may have been dirty, sticky floored, cats walking around your feet because of the rat infestation, and had only two huge theaters with screens so gigantic that it was impossible to sit on the first row and not be blind -- but we still loved it. The Commodore Cinemas was a part of Williamsburg's historic scenery, for years.

My family and friends use to call it the "Commodores" ... Adding an 'S', to it. Lol.

It closed in July of 2002. And now in 2012, it's completely demolished. I pass by the every time, and it's sad to see it nonexistent. It was part of my old neighborhood and childhood.

But now, Williamsburg, ten years later, decided to bring back Hollywood.

The newly "Williamsburg Cinemas" just opened today. I've seen it being build in this past summer. Not thinking it'd open today, or this early in the year! I thought summer of 2013, it'd open.

I passed by it today, seeing regular people going in. I paused, thinking to myself, 'is it open, already?' I went in myself to find out and just by looking I saw people working in ticket stands -- and most importantly, I smelled popcorn. The the smell of popcorn clarified that it was officially opened for business.

I guess it was planned to open in 2012, making it ten years since the Commodore. The year span is too apropos, for it not to be planned that way.

I've been inside, but I have not seen a movie yet. But will soon.

It's beautiful inside. Before it was built, I was already imagining Friday, Saturday nights being packed, and 'bumpin' with families and friends. Even in the summer time I expect it to be off the hook.

The only problem is personally is - it's kinda small. I wish it was little bigger. Because I expect it to be so packed. Although, it's still going to be the spot to at, come weekends and summer nights.

So Brooklynites, a very emotional and exciting day in Williamsburg. We leave the past memories of the Commodore Cinemas where we were brought up as children, and begin the future with Williamsburg Cinemas, where we will bring our own children.
