Yankees: Could Robinson Cano be Traded ?

If there was a way for the New York Yankees to save money, get younger and still compete, they might have to trade Robinson Cano right now.

Especially if they want to sign Josh Hamilton. And I'd be hard to imagine, although, Cano could be the odd man out if they decided to trade either him or Curtis Granderson.

Between Cano and Granderson, whose gonna want more money ? Cano. Whose going to be worth more ? Cano. Whose going to want more years ? Cano. I believe the Yankees can resign Granderson for a far more reasonable price and is a center-fielder, than Cano whose a second baseman.

I understand Cano is the best second baseman in the world. Although, you can replace Cano offense with Hamilton's. With Granderson, he covers a lot of ground in the outfield with great defense, he's a center-fielder who hits over 30-homers, a great clubhouse and -- something that Cano doesn't have -- he has speed. Granderson can steal 30-bases, while Cano simply can't.

Cano might be worth 7-years, $180 million. Granderson, may only cost you 4-years, $90 million.

Can the Yankees replace Granderson with injury prone an Brett Gardner who can only smack balls to left and hit five homeruns ? Granderson is hardly on the D.L -- or ever on it.

Cano, is a player I can see in the future putting on weight and getting slower. He doesn't have speed now -- can you imagine him at 35-years old running around bases... Don't get me wrong, I love Cano, but they're times when he can look lazy and slow.

Yanks can trade Cano now, which would free up money for Hamilton, and they could get a pitcher for him or some young prospects for him.

How about Cano to the Phillies for Cliff Lee. Or, to the LA Dodgers for young prospects. Another one -- trade Cano to the Kanas City Royals for Will Myers. This way, you free up money, get younger and get better currently.
