The good thing that comes out of this, is that if Yankees do trade Curtis Granderson, they will have either Justin Upton or Josh Hamilton in the outfield.
Brian Cashman isn't going to trade our only star outfielder, and not bring in anyone to fill in right or center field. Cashman should be fired if he trades Granderson, and Upton and Hamilton go elsewhere. If that happens, Yankees will only have Brett Gardner in the outfield.
Trading Granderson would free up money to sign a free agent, like Hamilton, or A.J Pierzynski.
To me, the only team I can see Granderson getting traded to is the Philadelphia Phillies. They could afford having a one-year contract, and they could give Granderson an extension, or resign him next year. I can see them liking Granderson. Phillies can view Granderson hitting 40-homers a year at Citizens Bank Park. He's the perfect pull hitter for that park.
The problem is, the only return I can see the Yankees getting back from Philly is Domonic Brown, which wouldn't be that much in return. I thought about Cliff Lee too, but I don't the Yankees want to add more money when they're trying to get rid of it.
Granderson to the Mariners ?:
How about a three-team trade with the Yankees, Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks. Here's how it'll go:
Mariners get: Curtis Granderson, Eduardo Nunez, Jason Kubal, (Yankees prospect) Slade Heathcott.
Diamondbacks get: (Mariners Prospects) Nick Franklin and Taijuan Walker,
Yankees get: Justin Upton
Now, why would the Mariners take a one-year Granderson, you may say ? I could see Granderson liking it there and can resign with them for good money, or, if Granderson is having a great first season at Seattle - they can trade him in the middle of the season and get young prospects for him.
