Amare Stoudemire will return tonight, against the Portland Trail Blazers, at home.
I love how people criticize the idea of Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony working together, as if they've never been successful playing on the same floor. Because that is 100% false.
First of all, since Stoudemire and Anthony have played together, the New York Knicks never had a true point guard. The only certified PG they had was Chauncey Billups -- that's it. I'm not counting Jeremy Lin. Sorry. I know he exploded last season for the Knicks and saved the Knick season, but he's a small sample.
If Billups never pulls the hamstring in Game One of the First Round of the Playoffs against the Boston Celtics, Knicks win that game and probably the series. Also, let's not forget Stoudemire tweaking his back in Game Two. Stoudemire was sensational in Game One of that series -- having 28-points and 11-rebounds.
Not only the team needed a good point-guard, but Stoudemire needs to play on the same floor with one. And with Raymond Felton's return to this Knicks this season, he's going to be a big help for Stat. Stoudemire and Felton had great floor chemistry in the 2010-2011 season before Felton got traded to Denver; Felton made Stoudemire an MVP caliber player.
Don't forget Jason Kidd potentially setting up opening lanes for Stoudemire.
It's going to be fascinating to see how Stoudemire fits on this team, coming off the bench. If he does what he's suppose to, Knicks will be dangerous. No question. Especially with Rasheed Wallace out.
What To Look For In Stoudemire, Tonight: His jump shot and quickness to the hole. Stat's shooting in 2010-2011 was the reason for scoring 30-points every night, and, with him being 30-years old and having many injuries, we'll see if his quickness is still there.
We'll see what kind of Stat we'll get this season, tonight.
