Rob Bradford of WEEI.com is reporting that the New York Yankees are closing in a deal with Travis Hafner.
If the Yanks do sign Hafner: from a left-handed power hitter standpoint, it makes sense. With that short-porch in right, and the Yankees losing a lot of power from last season, he fills up the lost of homeruns from Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez.
Defensively...this signing looks useless. Hafner is a DH/first baseman. Yankees have enough future designated hitters.
He's coming to this team to be a DH and to come off the bench if the Yankees are down by a run in the ninth.
Offensively, I like Hafner. He can smoke 20-homers in Yankee Stadium. Though...they're getting nothing defensively.
