Christoph Waltz hosted last night's newly Saturday Night Live. 'No mom, not Christopher Walken'.
I didn't know much of Waltz before SNL (and after), but he was okay. Though, the writers could've done more with him. They weren't creative enough with a guy like him who could've done a lot of great things. Didn't capitalize.
The "Jamarcus Brothers CD" skit, was the right type of framework they should've done more of. Putting a guy like Waltz with his personality and accent in a skit that's totally out of his league, is funny.
The Monologue:
Meh...it was okay.
Though, Kate McKinnon and Bobby Moynihan were great, doing Austrian impressions. Then, my boy, Taran Killam comes out doing a "causal Hitler" impression, which is something I've never seen before. Hilarious.
Taran Killam's Marco Rubio Impersonation:
Killam was brilliant; I know, what else is new. Couldn't have picked a better, more lively guy to play this skit. Probably Moynihan. But the rest of the male cast could've not done the skit better than Killam.
To do a ten minute skit about Marco Rubio picking up a bottle of water and making it funny, is genius. Because if you were told to write a skit on the Rubio incident, it's tough to start and end it because it's all about making fun of Rubio drinking a bottle of water during his speech. It's hard to make a long -- enough -- skit on just that. But they widen it by making Taran stretching for the bottle and stretching to put the bottle back. That's creative writing at it's finest.
You knew SNL was going to do a Rubio skit. I just thought it'd be in the beginning of the show.
Jay Pharoah Impersonates Stephen A. Smith:
For those who don't watch ESPN (and I don't blame you) Jay Pharoah nails Stephen A. Smith. With the sound of his voice and the way he kisses up to players right before he's about to bash them.
Pharoah is very gifted. I never seen a guy who does a wide variety of celebrities, like he does. I wanna see him do more celebs.
Kate McKinnon acing as Olya Povlatsky:
McKinnon -- even though she has a Irish lastname -- must have a heavy Russian background, because she does the accent so well. That's not, just, good acting -- that's hereditary. Also she looks Russian...or...German...or... never mind.
"All my milkshakes bring the boys to the halted mind". Lol. By the way, that Kelis song, "MilkShake" came out ten years ago... Crazy.
Amazing talent McKinnon has. Very pretty, as well.
Regine:
You cannot miss Fred Armisen's bitchy, female character of Regine. When he plays any woman it's must see.
When Armisen enteres the scene, Bill Hader is already laughing. And can you blame him? How can you keep a serious face with Armisen as woman. It's impossible.
