Yankees: Could Justin Morneau replace Mark Teixeira?

With Mark Teixeira out for 8 to 10 weeks due to a strain right wrist tendon, will that force the Yankees GM Brian Cashman to get a big bat to replace Teixeira at first, or to replace his power ?

And one name that Wfan's Mike Francesa brought up for a possibility, and got me interested, is Justin Morneau.

Cashman and the Yankees say Teixeira will most likely comeback in May, but they're gonna need to get a power bat; even if Teixeira and Curtis Granderson were healthy the Yankees still needed to get a big bat in the lineup, from the lost of power in the offseason.

A strain tendon on a wrist for a power hitter like Teixeira, is integral. If he's not 100% healthy when he returns, he's gonna struggle. That's why the Yankees might need to go get themselves a somewhat, big name first baseman.

Teixeira is a notorious slow starter in the beginning of the season, as it is -- imagine his wrist not being fully cured? Teixeira relies on his wrist for power. He's a two-handed power hitter.

Who knows if Teixeira is gonna be healthy the rest of the season.

Can The Yankees Get Justin Morneau: Francesa made it sound a little too easy for the Yankees get Morneau from the Minnesota Twins. Is it possible? Yes; and not just because he's making a ton of money on his contract that the Yanks can take.

Sure, the Twins would like someone to take his $14 million dollar contract, but I don't think the Twins 'have' to get rid of him, just for the fact he'll be a free agent next year. It's just one year. They're paying Joe Mauer $23 million; that's a contract they'd like to get away from.

Yankees can acquire Morneau for this reason: the Twins can get something for him now, since he won't -- mostly likely -- resign with them. At least they get something for him. So I can see the interest there, from Minnesota.

Morneau wouldn't mind coming to the Yankees on the last year of his contract, where he could redeem his career with that short porch in right at Yankee Stadium. He can end up hitting 40-homers, EASILY. I know he's not the 2006, MVP Morneau, but you put him at Yankee Stadium and he can become that '06 player again.

Even if Teixeira returns, Yankees can still can use Morneau. Yankees would prefer a right-handed; no question. But knowing what he can potentially be, you'd have to get him.
