Is Macklemore That Good?

Really? Macklemore is winning awards over Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky and Drake? Somethings up.

FIRST AND FOREMOST -- let me start by saying: I don't dislike Macklemore... I like him. He's talented. It's nice to see a white guy spit on the mic; it's different to witness. BUT, the music media and these award shows are making him out to be the next great rapper, when he's nothing close to that.

They listen to the beat, but not the vocals. That's what these people -- whoever it is who decides who wins these awards -- do, when they listen to Macklemore's hits. The beat is what sells the song; just like a lot of songs out there today, are about.

When Macklemore's hit "Can't Hold Us" first came out, it immediately became one of my favorite songs. But what made it my favorite, wasn't because of Macklemore. It was the beat, and, Ray Dalton singing the chorus. The indian beat to "Can't Hold Us" and Dalton's vocals made that song have over 157,000,000 views on YouTube.

Dalton gets little respect for that song, if you realize. He sold the song -- let's be honest -- and he made the song sound like the late Nate Dogg was a part of it. Dalton is the star of "Can't Hold Us".

Macklemore is not a great rapper. Not gonna saying he's bad because he...isn't. And the main reason why he isn't great, is because I can't hear what he's saying when he raps. In order to be a great rapper -- I always go by -- you have to break into someone's ears. Meaning: Your lyrics has to grab the attention of the listener in a profound way. Either from good lyrics, loud/aggressive vocals and/or the wave of your vocals matches with the hip hop beat. When I listen to Kanye West's music, I feel like I'm listening to a heated argument that I have to be nosey to. West is that empowering with his music.

Just because Macklemore spits lyrics quickly, don't make him good. It's more to it than just talking fast. That's why hip-hop is a true gift if you're great at it. Though, the problem is, some people in this world don't know what makes a great rapper.

Macklemore is a good rapper. It's hard to do what he does. But he's too basic to win awards over A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar. The MTV Video Music Awards and the American Music Awards gave Macklemore those awards over Lamar and Rocky. Not the right move.

"Fuckin Problems" is one of the best, hardcore rap songs I've heard in a long time and it gets no respect from the mainstream media. Why? Because of the name of the song? Macklemore's first lyric is "I have a big cock"... Again -- somethings up.

Folks, I'll just rap it up in one fell swoop: Music is dead. We live in a world where good music is being neglected and music, itself, is being treated as if anyone can be successful at it. And when music is being treated that way, it doesn't become special anymore.
