The Yankees front office have so many holes to fill in. From position players, to starting pitching. For past week we've focused on the Yankees acquiring a pitcher, outfielder or a catcher. But we haven't mentioned, or discussed anything about the third base situation. Especially with A-Rod being in the trouble he's in.
So that brings me to my title; the reason why I made this post. And that's, to talk about the Yankees needing to acquire San Diego Padres' third basemen, Chase Headley.
The Yankees MUST, -- I repeat -- MUST, package a deal to San Diego for Headley. For those Yankee fans who want Brian Cashman to find the same style of players from the late 90's Yankee teams, Headley is your guy.
He's a switch-hitter -- just like what Bernie Williams and Jorge Posada were for the Yankees.
He's high .OBP player; just like the 90's Yankees; even though Headley only had a .347 OBP, he has had better in the previous seasons.
Headley's power declined last year due to some injuries, but I feel he'll bounce back to that power he had in the 2012 season. I believe Headley will hit 25-30 homeruns as a Yankee; especially as a lefty with that short porch in right. Also, let Kevin Long work his magic with him, a little.
2012 Stats: 31 Homeruns, 115 RBI(career high), .286 BA.
2013 Stats: 15 Homeruns, 50 RBI, .250 BA.
Another reason why I feel Headley can regain that 2012 form again, is because he'll simply be on a better team (we hope). It's a big difference going from the Padres to the Yankees. And if he looks like an intense player, when I saw him play against the Yankees this season. Headley wants to win.
He's a gold glover. Headley plays great defense, which is very important to the Yankees, if they're gonna replace a third baseman like A-Rod. The 29-year old Padre third baseman has a .968 fielding percentage.
WHAT CAN THE YANKEES OFFER FOR HEADLEY?
Yankees are gonna have to give up Ivan Nova. They can get Headley with Nova in a deal. Padres might ask for a little more, but Nova and a single-A player, can get it done, in my view.
It seems so right for this deal to finally happen this off-season. And I really do see it happening.
