YES -- Jacoby Ellsbury is a New York Yankee. WOW!
Yankees ink Ellsbury to a 7-year, $153 million dollar deal, to the Yankees' center fielder for 2014, replacing Curtis Granderson.
I'm stunned. As a Yankee fan, why should I be, right? It just didn't make sense for the Yankees to sign him, without signing Robinson Cano and having to still bolster their pitching rotation. Signing Ellsbury wouldn't seem like a plan for the Yankees, in my view.
But, Ellsbury is a Yankee. Do I hate that he was on last year's Boston Red Sox championship team? Yes. But it is what it is and he's my new center fielder.
The Yankees, are no question, better, with this signing. They're younger, better defensively in the outfield and most importantly, they're much more faster in the base paths. Ellsbury is one-hundred times better than Brett Gardner, at base stealing. Gardner had 24 stolen bases in 2013, and Ellsbury had 52.
Don't get it twisted -- Ellsbury has power, too. He hit only 9 homeruns last season, but had 32 in 2011 and can pop a couple out, from time-to-time. With the Yankee Stadium short porch, that number can go up. I see 15 -- to maybe, 20 -- homeruns for Ellsbury.
Yankees add experience and championship pedigree. Ellsbury knows how to win. He can get you those oppisite-field RBI singles when trailing one-run in the ninth inning, on the road; then steal a base and possibly be that winning run. That's what he does; that's what he did to the Yankees. I hated seeing him come up in a big situation against Mariano Rivera in the ninth.
Unbelievable.. Ellsbury is a Yankee. Is more to come? I think so..... :DDDD
Merry Christmas, Yankee fans.
