I don't know if anyone brought up the idea of Juwan Howard coaching an NBA team in the near future, or if he has no interest. Or probably has no damn interest coaching -- what my title reads -- the New York Knicks.
Though as of right now, Howard is an assistant coach for the Miami Heat. But soon, you'd have to think, Howard is gonna wanna coach his own team. Now, coming from a championship team, the Heat, with hall of fame players on it and have winning basketball each year -- could he be interested in coaching the dysfunctional, hardheaded Knicks? Would he be willing to make that transition from having Pat Riley as his boss, to James Dolan? God, I'd hope..
If the Knicks front office decided to let Mike Woodson go, there isn't much of a coaching market to replace Woodson. You can say: Jeff Van Gundy, which I would like. Saying the name: Phil Jackson -- would be a reach. So, why not Howard?
Howard would have an impact on players, from rookies to veterans, because of who he is; they'll admire him. With his whole college career as being part of the iconic "Fab Five" at the University of Michigan, and generally just who he is. Howard seems to get along with players easily. Also, he's very active on the bench as an assistant coach for the Heat. Remember, he was big part of LeBron James winning his first championship -- being that big brother on his side.
But they're questions about Howard coaching the Knicks. Can he work with Carmelo Anthony? Can Anthony work with Howard? At times, when these former players coach for the first time, they coach young teams, or starless teams.
It's something to think about, if the Knicks front office decided to let Woodson go.
