All it took was that 4th year to get it done! That's all.
But it is done! The New York Mets have reached an agreement with (now) former Yankee centerfielder, Curtis Granderson, to a 4-year, $60 million dollar contract.
Needed to be done. The Mets could not enter opening day without any upgrades in the outfield. And with the high interest the Mets had for Granderson in this entire offseason thus far, Sandy Alderson and the Mets front office couldn't let, a year, be the factor to not sign Granderson.
Mets fans were already set to have the former Yankee outfielder in a Met uniform. Even other baseball fans, already had him in Citi Field playing opening for the Mets. So it had to happen. It would've been a disaster if Granderson got away from them; knowing how close they were to get him.
As a Yankee fan, I've seen Granderson for three years -- and I loved him. Not just his on the field talent, but the way he carries himself off the field. Speaks very well; a highly educated man; his parents are both doctors, and he is a TOTAL opposite to Jordany Valdespin.
I can already see Ganderson and David Wright doing many sponsorships and promotions, for the Mets.
I'm gonna miss him.
TALENT WISE:
When the Yankee first acquired Granderson in the 2009 offseason in a three-way trade from the Detroit Tigers, I thought I was going to see doubles, triples and homeruns. Well, we got more of one of those three things. With that short porch in right at Yankee Stadium, those potential triples and doubles became homeruns. Which I didn't mine -- those are still runs.
But playing in a ballpark like Citi Field, Granderson has a chance to become that player he was in Detroit. With those huge gaps, he could go back to hitting triples and doubles again. And that ballpark, being as huge as it is, he will still hit homeruns. He hits bombs! No cheaps.
Negative side, his strikeouts a lot. But, those are just outs. And I feel, that he'll get pass that playing with the Mets; since he got very pull-happy at Yankee Stadium.
Great pickup for the Mets. As a Yankee fan, I want to see the Mets be good again; New York City is hella fun when both NY teams are playing well.
And for the Met fans' sake -- I hope this acquisition doesn't stop here.
