Ten Years Later, A-Rod & Colon Still Got It

Ten years ago Bartolo Colon won the Cy Young Award and Alex Rodriguez won the MVP. And from 2005 to 2015, both players are still just as productive ten years later.

Colon won that Cy Young Award as a Anaheim Angel in '05, when he would paint 95-mph fastballs at the corners. That was back in 2005 when he was 31 -- now in 2015, as a 41-year-old New York Met, he's painting the corners with 89 to 92-mph fastball, and he's still damn good.

On Friday night's game, Colon pitched against the Miami Marlins, going 7.0 innings, allowing 1 run with 4 hits and striking out 5; oh, by the way, with a sac fly RBI, as well. Mets went on to win that game, 4-1. Colon is now 3-0 with a 2.25 era in this young 2015 season.

Then you have A-Rod, who won his first MVP as a New York Yankee at age 29, decides at age 39, might want to go after another MVP trophy. On the same night Colon pitches that gem against the Marlins, A-Rod goes 3-for-4 with 2 homeruns and 4 RBIs, against another Florida team, the Tampa Bay Rays. A-Rod also had the go-ahead run in the 8th inning to give the Yankees the lead, as they went on to beat the Rays, 5-4.

A-Rod isn't hitting little fly homers that just misses the outfielders glove. He's hitting classic, A-Rod bombs! The power is still there. I see no warning track power.

The two New York baseball teams beat the two Florida teams, with a help of two past-prime players.

It's incredible. A-Rod and Colon are still doing it at this age, with big roles on their teams. A-Rod is not a pinch-hitter -- Colon is no long-man. These guys are still doing it at this late age, as major key players. Just amazing.
