For their April 27 issue, TIME Magazine is doing the "100 Most Influential People", with five different covers. Don't know much about the other three, but these two you see above I know very well and, are to, damn right influential.
Excuse me for not knowing who the others are; though they look familiar, like Misty Copeland who I've seen on commercials and judging in dance contests.
Me being dumb, I'm not gonna know who Jorge Ramos is, because he's a journalist; of course I'm not gonna know who a journalist is when I just follow sports and music. But I should know since he's a hispanic pioneer by being a Mexican-American journalist.
Then there's Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose a Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. She was appointed by President Bill Clinton and took the oath of office on August 10, 1993. Again, I'm not a smart individual, but you'd have to be pretty important to be involve in something like that.
Things that have to do with journalism or the supreme court of the United States...I don't know about that! But I do know a little about music...and movies!
And I hope I don't make the two great gentlemen I about to talk about look bad, who have two of the five covers on the April issue of TIME Magazine, that have me highly interested, which are Kanye West and Bradley Cooper.
West and Cooper are two main stream names; no doubt about that. But I say Time Magazine is smart to add these two names that aren't just any names -- these are two celebrities who are in their current, prime of superstardom in entertainment today.
Cooper and West -- let's face it -- are the top two celebrities who are almost no.1 in their level and craft. They're both in their late 30's, have accomplished a lot already in their (rather) young career, very well known in almost every age and they're still climbing the mountain of success.
West and Cooper are your -- what I like to say -- 'right-now' guys. They're very today in pop-culture, main stream. The middle school, high school, college demographic knows who these two are. Not only know who they are, the middle age demographic loves Kanye West and Bradley Cooper; they're in their top-five in music and movies.
Being a 'right-now' celebrity means you're in the middle but at the top of your game. In you're in the middle because you're still growing to become great, but has immense relevancy in the world, today. A 'Right-now' guy has the main spotlight in their craft -- for now. Until they get older and someone else takes it.
Are there better rappers than Kanye West, right now? No rapperS. There's A rapper - better than Kanye. His name is Jay-Z. But I like to think of Jay-Z right now as...the past. Sorry Jigga, I love you, but you're getting old brotha. Not trashing Jay-Z, just saying he doesn't have to accomplish anything that Kanye hasn't. Jigga is accomplished. And like Suge Knight once said, hip-hop is a young man's game; Kanye is no spring chicken as well -- but he's young enough and powerful enough in this hip-hop culture (that's a little weak, I must say) to be the prime guy. Kanye is the perfect example of being a 'right-now' guy.
Cooper, at 40-years-old, has many actors on front of him, who've accomplished a lot. Is there one specific guy who is better than Cooper? Oh...how about...Leonardo Dicaprio. And yes, Dicaprio is still in his prime and still at his damn best in every single movie he does, but he doesn't need this title. He's accomplished a lot -- just needs an Oscar award, that he's been snubbed hundred times. Cooper is climbing that top mountain to reach the top like Leonardo.
Putting the best middle-age actor and rapper on the cover of your magazine, sells.
Kanye West and Bradley Cooper are influential to people. Influential from their craft and from their soul. These are two of the most authentic souls celebrities we have today. There's truth when Cooper and certainly when West speak. Again -- not only influential in their work, but influential in how they make people feel.
