Give the New York Rangers Credit

In the past coupe of years, a lot New York sports teams haven't done much for this city. The Yankees don't make the playoffs every year, anymore. The Mets (besides last year) haven't been good. The Giants and Jets barely make the playoffs. And the Knicks...well, I'm not even gonna go there.

But how about the New York Rangers? Who tonight, play game one of the first round in the Stanley Cup playoffs, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Rangers have been in the playoffs every year, now. And they don't get in just to get bumped out of the first round, they go deep in the playoffs. The Yankees always talk about going into a season playing with a 'championship or bust' mentality -- well, the Rangers are REALLY playing like it's a 'championship or bust' mentality. They want the cup.

Personally, I feel guilty watching the Rangers in the playoffs, because I don't watch their season; and I should've been watching their season, instead I was wasting my time watching those damn Knicks, who break my heart every year.

But man, I love the NHL playoffs; even though, I'm not gonna watch a playoff game the Rangers aren't playing in, but I will watch every Rangers playoff game. Mainly, because it's exciting as hell, with intense, non-stop action and the Rangers playing Madison Square Garden. I love that arena. And when I see the Garden electric and roaring after the Rangers win from a game-winning goal in the playoffs, it's a magical feeling. There's no arena in the world that can bring that feel.

Let's be honest, the Rangers are the only thing keeping MSG relevant. The way the Knicks are playing, I don't know if we'll ever see playoff basketball in the mecca, again.

So give the Rangers credit for keeping MSG and New York sports fans something to root for, as the weather gets warmer and people wanna go to bars and watch big game.

Last year was a crucial end to the Ranger season, when they got eliminated in game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals. Hoping for a different outcome this season. I wanna celebrate like it's 1994.
