Brandy - "Talk About Our Love" ft. Kanye West - 2004
Sometimes you look back at old songs and realize in the present how underrated some are. Especially with the trash we're given today.
I ran into this song the other on YouTube and totally forgot about it. And it made me realize: Brandy should've had a better musical career.
Around this time span, of 2002 to 2004, Brandy had some big hits. In 2002, she had two major hits in the album "Full Moon" which one of them was also called "Full Moon, and the other "What About Us"; which was one of my favorites.
Then two years later in 2004 she comes out with "Talk About Our Love" that featured an up-and-coming rapper by the name of Kanye West.
At times there are songs that features two big name artists and one verse sounds better than the other or the featured artist sounds better than the main artist in the song. But not for this song. This was a great collaboration; Brandy sounds fantastic in her r&b verse and Kanye was terrific his hip-hop verse.
And the music video was great, as well. The video gives you a clear story of Brandy and Kanye's fictional relationship. Their characters in the video are having trouble with family and friends being opinionated about their relationship, while it isn't perfect. They're struggling to stay together but at the same time people don't mind their business.
The video was actually nominated for a VMA for "Best R&B Video".
I respect Brandy. What made her beautiful was her class. Not only she's had a very good career, she's also kept a great image. You never saw her grinding ass on the floor or doing anything raunchy to get attention. We she got attention, it was for her talent. She should've made it bigger.
One of the great r&b voices in the past two decades.
