That's it. After twelve rollercoaster years, of absolute ups and downs, Alex Rodriguez has ended his movie with the New York Yankees.
You wanna talk about a Bronx tale -- this is one. From what all of us Yankee fans have been through with A-Rod and from what A-Rod has been through with us, this relationship has finally taken the last page.
From walk-off homeruns, to strikeouts in big situations, to clutch hits in big situations; failing in the postseason, to redeeming in the postseason; to batting second, cleanup and eighth in a lineup in the postseason; there was always something with A-Rod.
In the 1970's, the Yankees were called the Bronx Zoo. A-Rod was his own zoo -- or circus.
You gotta remember, when the Yankees acquired A-Rod in 2004, they were just two years removed from the end to their championship dynasty. Luis Gonzalez hits the base hit off Mariano Rivera to end game seven of the 2001 World Series, then two years they make a drastic change when they acquire A-Rod, Gary Sheffield, Jason Giambi; players who didn't come from the same cloth as those players from the championship years in the last 1990's.
Before A-Rod, the Yankees had a quiet house. Sure Derek Jeter did his thing and went out with well known name women and partied late, but he carried himself in such a different way, oppose to A-Rod. Jeter was more of a rockstar, who people wanted to be like. As for A-Rod, he was a great baseball player who was used as a shield.
Through the years, A-Rod was really wrongfully treated.
The other when I watched the ESPN documentary of "O.J. Made In America", the way O.J. Simpson was treated after he was found not guilty to double murder, it was almost the way A-Rod was being treated after he admitted using steroids. That hate and abuse from someone who used steroids?
I could understand if A-Rod was the only player in history of doping, but there was plenty of players using who didn't get caught and still players using now and are looked as a god.
After A-Rod admitted to using, he was a standup guy. He was never disrespectful. Yea, he fought in court as he rightly should; as anyone in this country has the right to do. Meanwhile, players like David Ortiz who breaks bullpen phones with a bat, after failing a drug test, gets to be on commercials and their cock sucked by ESPN. And I understand ESPN loves the Boston Red Sox, but can you be a little fair? Just a little. For once.
Imagine if A-Rod broke a bullpen phone with a bat? Oh dear... He's probably in prison.
But the one thing they couldn't take away from A-Rod, was his passion for the game. Because played the field, every night. Played nearly every game. He gave Yankee fans 100% effort every single night; he didn't dog it, not once, for this organization. He gave you everything he had when he entered that grass. Everything else that was off the field -- useless! Boring! Who cares! What matters, is what he did on that field.
Will A-Rod Play Again?
After last night, I found A-Rod to be -- what he said -- in peace. I think he's done with it all. Yea, he could sign with another team before end of the season since he's four homeruns away from 700 homeruns. But I don't think he wants to workout, warmup, get himself ready for a game, anymore. I know he must really want to get to 700 homeruns, but the other side of him might wanna end it the way he did last night. With his daughters, with his family and most importantly with that Yankee uniform.
