Last night, I was watching the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies game, where the Mets won in extra innings. I really enjoyed the game. But you know what I really enjoyed? Seeing those true, diehard Mets fans from Queens and New York, root for their beloved team. While Citi Field was partially empty, there was still noise in the ballpark.
Then, I have to watch my New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, sound like a basic baseball game, with basic cheers, instead of it sounding like a real New York ballpark like it use to, and not being filled with NON-BASEBALL FANS AND PEOPLE WHO AREN'T FROM NEW YORK!!!
Last Saturday, I watched the Mets/Twins game on Saturday, and saw the Hispanics, Irish, Italians, Jews; the true Queens natives; true locals from New York cheering for their team, I thought: why isn't Yankee Stadium like this?
Part of the reason of the I was watching that game was because of crowd getting into it. And again, the stadium was almost empty and was still generating noise. You know why? Because Citi Field had their true Met fans.
If you watch Yankee games today, especially in the new Yankee Stadium, 50% of the crowd aren't from the tristate area. I don't think half of them know how the sport of baseball is played! And I know it's not gonna generate the noise the old Yankee Stadium use to, but the reason why it isn't as loud, is because of this problem. Yankee Stadium needs more locals attending the ballpark.
Of course, diehard fans still attend the ballpark. Fans who've been coming to Yankee games since the 1970's. But you know where they're sitting? In the outfield! When they should be sitting in the front row. Those fans have to brought down to the front row, instead of these mannequins who are sitting at front row who pretend to be Yankee fans.
This is a free country; you can come to vacation from Europe and you see a Yankee game, but the Yankee hierarchy is to blame for this. They're the ones who priced these tickets so high, that the TRUE Yankee fan from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, who doesn't have the best job in the world (like myself) and can't spend money on train fair, food and a $80 per-ticket.
Sometimes, it seems like the Yankees are pushing the true New Yorkers away from the ballpark.
There's proof that the Yankees introducing more non-baseball fans and Euros to the ballpark, due to their business with soccer teams. How many times have they had soccer games at Yankee Stadium, that NO ONE cares about. Why are they pampering those people and not New Yorkers?
You never see New Yorkers in those Italy, Paris soccer games. In those soccer games, they have THEIR PEOPLE attending those games. In Citi Field, they have NEW YORKERS attending those games. In Fenway Park, they have BOSTONIANS at their ballpark. But not the Yankees!
This is why business deals like this, ruins cultures. I'm seeing it be done in Brooklyn, New York, where I grew up. It feels like Brooklyn turning into Seattle. Turning from culture to bland.
Part of television ratings or watching sports, is because of the crowd. The crowd adds 50% of the entertainment to sports on television. I never watch soccer, but the thing that interests me a little, is the raucous, loud, drunk, rowdy crowd they generated. And the reason that part of soccer interests me, is because that crowd reminds me of the old Yankee Stadium crowd. Every soccer game I watch, I love the audience because it's very similar to the postseason/playoff crowd at the old ballpark. Every single game looks like 2001 World Series.
When I watch a Los Angeles Dodger game, I know what crowd I'm gonna get. When the Yankees go to Boston, I know what crowd is coming to the ballpark. With Yankee Stadium, I don't know what crowd is coming to the ballpark.
The latest I've seen Yankee Stadium loud, packed with real fans, was for the wild card game against the Houston Astros, last year, and this season when Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin made their debut; and on that day, it was 1996 reunion. There were old Yankee fans who attended that game. There was a reason why it was loud.
Instead of the Yankees bettering their crowd noise and trying to bring back that old Yankee Stadium feel, they're making it worst. You want YANKEE FANS from NEW YORK to buy tickets. Just like how Europe wants NON-AMERICANS in their ballpark -- which is fine with me, as an American. They want their crowd and their fanbase. That's the right way of doing things.
The Yankees can't become one of these organizations who care about people, who don't care about them.
In 2017, especially with the young stars the Yankees have, like Gary Sanchez, Greg Bird, Aaron Judge, Clinton Frazier, this would be the perfect time for the Yankees to bring back 1990's crowd. No, not saying only bring back 40, 50-year-olds who saw Bernie Williams play as a youngster, I'm saying bring back New York to Yankee Stadium, like it use to -- and like it should be.
