Yankees Win Big, 2-0, Against The Red Sox, And Tie For First Place In The A.L East, With The Orioles
Yankees can't catch a break, it seems. They almost have to win a game to perfection.
Michael Kay -- who I like very much but I can't the radio station he works for -- has to count and say how many runners the Yankees left on base, about 56 times.
We get that the Yankees are struggling with runners. But they got the WIN ! That's all it matters at this time, is a WIN !
Yankees are almost 'damned if they do and damned if they don't'. I remember the first complaint of the year was: "The Yankees haven't won a game without hitting a homerun". Yankees did that tonight. Yanks won without hitting the homerun. But Kay is not happy !
If the Yankees score too many runs, the complaint would be: 'The Yankees don't know how to win close games'. Meanwhile, incase you cared, the Yankees did win 2-0 nothing, tonight.
The media wants the Yankees to pumble the weak teams and win close against the good teams. Sorry. Nothing can be perfect.
At this time, it doesn't matter how pretty or ugly it looks, just get the W.
Phil Hughes: What performance by Phil Hughes. I expected him to pitch well of a weak Red Sox lineup and coming off a big win against the Baltimore Orioles.
Hughes went into this game and just dominated. He saw this Red Sox lineup, he saw how big of a game this was, and was prepared to take the Yankees to the finish line.
I wonder if Hughes has found himself ? Is this the Hughes we've been waiting for, since we called him up in 2007. He does seem to have a better feel for his pitches, and knows what to do on the mound. On this game, he hardly threw his curveball, and still pitched a shut out. That tells me he knows what to use and what he doesn't have to use.
If the postseason began today, Hughes is the no.3 starter. He's earned it.
