Yankees Fallout: Two Grandy

Yankees Win A Close One, 5-4, Against The Rival Red Sox

It doesn't how bad or easy it looks, a win is a win at this time of the season.

You'd like the Yankees score more runs, but, like I said, a W is a W.

David Phelps: Great start for him; would have liked to see him finish the 6th, but Joe Girardi removed him at the 6th with only thrown 93-pitches.

I like Phelps makeup, on the mound. He seems like a very nice guy in postgame interviews, but on the mound, he's got an attitude look on face. I like that. Very confident for a young pitcher.

Phelps has good, good stuff. Can he be a starter in the rotation ? It depends if he can control his fastball  consistently, like he did tonight. He spotted his fastballs well. Phelps has got to be perfect in order to be successful.

The breaking stuff is really good, too. Great curve, and a great slider to pitch away to right-handers.

The 25-year old rookie starter showed the Yankees and fans that he wants to be here. I know this Red Sox lineup is far from being any good. But it doesn't matter. Phelps had to show he can beat a team like this in order to stay, or have a spot on the postseason roster, if the Yankees make it.

Curtis Granderson: Will this FINALLY get Granderson going ? I hope so, since he's what we need with Mark Teixeira out. What Granderson did on Sunday and last night, shows you he can carry a team.

When Granderson hit the two-run homer to make the Yankee lead 5-1, there was that sense of: 'This is what the Yankees lacked through this tough time'.

Derek Jeter: I don't think a "bone bruise" is going to keep Jeter out of a pennant race.

Jeter has been suffering that injury since last week, he just irritated as he stepped hard on first base. That's gonna happen.

Hughes vs Doubront: Yankees need to go in tonight, win, and get the hell out of Boston.

Felix Doubront has a 5.21 ERA; he's got good stuff, but that high ERA indicates the Yankees should pound this guy.

I wonder if the Yankees play Eduardo Nunez at stortstop with Jeter being a little nicked up, or does he DH. Yankees need another right-handed bat in the lineup Teixeira out, and Nunez would be perfect. I know Girardi wouldn't want bad defense by putting Nunez in short; especially at time of the season where the Yankees can't have any mistakes.

For Phil Hughes -- I see him well tonight. Especially with a lineup like this. Hughes pitched well in Camden Yards, but I expect him to pitch even better, tonight.
