A very somber opening to this past weekend Saturday Night Live.Opening up with New York City Chorus Children's Chorus, singing "Silent Night Cold". Very touching... Too painful to talk about, but strong enough to say how touching was it for Saturday Night Live to do this.
Martin Short: So damn good, this man is.
Would have liked to have seen Short do more skits. But the little he did, was good enough to make a somewhat sober show, to a funny one.
Short playing the "Royal Family Doctor" - stole the show. He had Bill Hader trying his to keep a serious face; well, nowadays, Harder laughs at everything now. And I guess it's funny to watch him laugh. I hate to say it, but when the cast member laughs, you laugh. It doesn't matter how bad the skit is, when a cast member laughs, the skit instantly becomes hilarious.
Then, when Fred Armisen entering at the end of the skit as the Queen, Harder was now challenging himself not to piss his pants. When Armisen plays a woman, he doesn't even have to talk, or do anything. You just stare at him as a woman and he's funny.
Cecily Strong's - "The Girl You Wish You Hasn't Started A Conversation With At A Party": I said it before, and I'll say it again -- SNL has found Kristen Wiig's replacement.
Cecily is very good at imitating different types of female race and personalities. She could act out as a Puerto Rican girl who lives in Brooklyn, and she could play annoying white chick -- like she did with this skit.
Girls who are fans of SNL, love to see girls like this made fun of. Because girls can't stand other girls and/or sometimes can view the character that Cecily played in this skit to someone they know or work with. They get a kick out of it.
The only thing about Cecily that she doesn't have from the past female SNL cast members -- she's not as goofy. She's more of a confident, funny girl. She holds her ground in her skits. But I can deal with it. She can not be funny, for all I care. I just like seeing her face on my T.V screen ;)
A Charley Brown Christmas: This was my favorite skit of the show.
A skit with Al Pacino and Larry David being played at the same time, is a dream of mine. These are actually two men I admire.
Harder does an extremely good Pacino, and Short -- not only acted out Larry David, well -- looked so much like David, it was scary.
I've noticed that they stopped doing the SNL digital short, and are now doing broadway skits. And I like them. Especially the first one that did of Clint Eastwood played as Bill Harder.
Mike Francesa Skit: I wonder if the SNL writers brought up the idea of doing WFan's radio sports host Mike Francesa. Once, I was going to send a letter to SNL, pitching an idea about a Francesa skit.
Ever since Fred Armisen played that fat guy, who replaces the sex therapist, I thought he'd be the best to play Mike Francesa.
