Yankees: Brian Cashman Won't Do Anything This Week

If the Yankees and Brian Cashman do nothing tonight or tomorrow morning, nothing will happen the rest of the week.

All you hear is "there talking to this guy; they've shown some interest on that player; spoken to that player's agent; high on that guy, low on that guy".

So far, they've talked to Kevin Youkilis for third base, and A.J Pierzynski for obviously catcher.

Youkilis: If the Yankees can get him for one-year, that would be perfect. Youkilis is a proven, clutch and right-handed which is something the Yankees need in their lefty-heavy lineup.

This could turn out to be the best signing of the off-season. I believe Youkilis will have a comeback season if he played for New York. When I heard he was interested in coming to the Yankees one-year, that told me he wants to come to a winning team.

Youkilis wants to prove he can still play on the biggest stage, and show the Boston Red Sox he still has it.

Pierzynski: Makes sense. Also, there's no where else to go for a catcher. Right now for the Yankees, it's either A.J Pierzynski or Austin Romine as the starting catcher for opening day.

Yankees should be able to sign Pierzynski in the next twenty-four hours.

Other Moves: Who knows. Today was the day that the Yankees were suppose to make a big splash. Yankees always make the big deals on the second day of the winter meetings.

Good thing is, Josh Hamilton is a free agent and Justin Upton is still a Arizona Diamonback. The goal is to get one of those outfielders. Or, that's what I want to see. But, I have to come to the realization that neither will come.

I'm not worried about catcher or infield. I let those position fix itself. I'm worried about the outfield for this team. Going into the season with one power hitting outfielder and no corner, is frighting. Yankees are supposedly not going to resign Curtis Granderson next year and they want to stay under the $189 payroll threshold. How in the hell are they going to be competitive.

That's why Upton is perfect for the Yankees. He's young, extremely talented and he's affordable. He's a player they can build around in the next ten years. Yankees need young stars.

As long as I've been watching the Yankees, they've always had power hitting corner outfield; even in the tough years around the early '90's they had Dave Winfield and Jesse Barfield in the outfield hitting 20-30 homeruns.

With Hamilton not signed yet, you get that feeling like the Yankees are going to jump in at any moment. Unlike Upton whose gonna cost a bunch of young prospects, you can just roll money to Hamilton.
