Mets Could Land Justin Upton

(Like I always say when I begin a positive Met column) As a YANKEE FAN, who would like to have Justin Upton on the team, I would not mind seeing him in a New York Met, uniform.
And the Mets could make it happen. The idea hit me, when I was putting together the Mets' potential 2013 rotation together and I saw the name Zack Wheeler. Then I thought: If the Mets can sign Carl Pavano, they can package a deal around Wheeler for Upton.
I think -- Wheeler alone, can get Upton to the Mets. And if the Mets have to throw pieces around Wheeler, it won't have to be big name prospects. They can even take the prospects they got for the R.A Dickey trade from the Toronto Blue Jays and use it to net Upton.
I think we all realize that the New York Mets need outfielders -- why not this guy? I can already see Upton hitting doubles and triples and making great plays defensively, into those wide gaps in Citi Field.
But a two-year old can tell you Upton can play well for the Mets. That's easy to say. The question is, would the Mets front office do it?
Mets general manger Sandy Alderson has got to start making moves. He's done nothing, so far. Mets fans and every Met beat writer always bashed Omar Minaya, when he delivered: Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Johan Santana, and got the team to the N.L.C.S in 2006, with one win away from heading to the World Series, and gets no respect. Alderson has not even scratch the surface yet, if you want to compare him to what Minaya has done. What do you want to praise Alderson for? Getting Frank Francisco? Whoopie...
Why not Justin Upton. Mets have to get that star player; they have to start somewhere. If it's not him, then when, and who? He's only 23-years old, he's under control for four years and he's an absolute definite upgrade in the outfield. He'd be a start in the right direction for the Mets to have a winning team again.
Upton has got to be the Amare Stoudemire of the Mets, where he gets other big names to come here.
Not only other star players need to start coming to the Mets, but the fans too. They have to fill up that ballpark. Getting Upton, will sell out opening day, for sure.
If the Mets sign Carl Pavano and trade for Justin Upton, those are moves that can get this team into the postseason.
