"Washington Heights" Review

MTV premiered their newly reality show "Washington Heights", on Wednesday night. And, if I had to give a quick review -- I would say it was fifty-fifty...

Positives: The spanish culture.

From Jimmy's grandmother kissing, hugging him and speaking spanish -- and got me a little sentimental, because she reminded me of my grandmother who passed way ten-years ago -- from Reyna's heavy 'latina' accent, is going to win big time with the viewers. Even little the things like P.J's mom mixing the rice and chucking it on the plate. That's going to relate the latino viewers eyes. Because they, and I, see that almost everyday.

Negatives: No personality and the scenery was dry.

Now, the Washington Heights is suppose to be the new "Laguna Beach", with that reality, slow pasted (kinda boring) drama - type genre. But the difference between the two shows, is the beautiful scenery of California on Laguna -- so, when Laguna Beach had their boring moments, they still sold the west coast picture to the viewers. Which is a big difference to the Heights, where the streets seems very dead and can dry up the show

Example: On the Heights, when they were all walking to P.J's show, the streets were really dark and it looked as if it just rained. And that's just how New York City is; I know that. But at that time when they were walking to P.J's show, the streets looked dead. MTV has to record them walking on a much more alive street. If they don't, the show is going to be very boring.

And no personality on the cast, I felt. Reyna, P.J and Frankie are the only ones who you can get to know. The rest, seem very simple. Ludwin is a cool dude. Taylor is super cute. And...that's it. Very basic.

The Theme: What the viewers might get bored of and not interested in, is the cast of Washington Heights trying to achieve their goals -- which is the theme of the show. People might not want to watch that. This show should be about kids leaving in the heights. And show the real shit that happens in the Heights.

On the "Jersey Shore", they weren't thinking about becoming singers or baseball players. They just lived their lives; and their lives were a lot more exciting. Jersey Shore made things fun, if things got boring. Very different compared to the Washington Heights who seem very laid back.

We'll see how well the show does. I'll still watch, because I want to support them. But I don't know if everyone else would.
