Like all of you, I just finishing watching Part-2 of Oprah Winfrey's interview with seven Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong, and it was, probably, one of Oprah's best interviews she's ever done.
We all know Oprah was going to be great; we all know she's the best at what she does. But this was about how Armstrong would look -- and I thought he was fantastic.
He was real. I think that's the best way to described him in this interview. There was no bullshit with him. People thought Armstrong was going to cry phony tears and beg for forgiveness for their feeling, and he didn't. And I liked that. And I'm not talking about his fans who've been with him for years, I'm talking about these pathetic, idiot ESPN analysts who are broken hearted because they have to be friends with sports athletes. They don't matter.
Did he get emotional? Yea, but it was for the right thing. What broke Armstrong, was a story he told about his son, Luke, being bothered from other kids in school about his allegations, and seeing him tell those kids in school: "what you hear about my dad is not true". Armstrong then had to come clean with his son and tell his own son to "stop defending me".
He didn't ball in tears, but he got choked up, and it was for the right reason -- it was because of his kids. And his emotions were real -- you would have to think.
What I Learned About Lance: Extremely competitive. What you may think is a jerk, or a scumbag, that's just him being what he is, and that's a highly competitive, winning, sports athlete.
I understand he got out of control, when his competitiveness switched to greed. What Armstrong did to his friends and former teammates was wrong. And he should pay the price for it.
Should Armstrong Be Hated: Only for those he hurt. Meaning his friends and old teammates. Other than that, no one should feel angered toward Armstrong. I thought the reaction from people were a bit much. I think some felt that they had to talk bad about him because everyone else was.
Even before the interview I thought the outpour was insane. Okay, he used steroids. Okay, he lied about it. So? He's the first? Armstrong was in the steroid era, just like millions of other sports athletes were.
The Theme: Oprah made a theme for this interview, and ut was: "The truth shall set you free". For me, it would be: Money, is the route to all evil.
