Last night on "60 Minutes", Laura Logan interviewed the creator of Twitter, Jack Dorsey.
Finally, we get to see the genius behind this genius invention. We hear and see so much of Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, but we never get to know anything about Dorsey. And we finally did.
I really liked Dorsey. He's a man that looks and sounds simple and lowkey, when meanwhile he's this immense innovator and leader. If you see Dorsey walk on the street, you'd think he's a dad who works in a office job. Not the creator of Twitter. Mysterious ... Pretty cool.
Twitter, in my opinion, is the best social media site, ever. Though, nine years ago some of us probably would've said the same about "MySpace" and "Facebook" -- but Twitter, I don't think can be topped.
Twitter is all of past social media sites in one. It even has an "AOL" chatroom implement, to it. American Online chatroom was, really, the first ever social media site that started to 'computer-zombie' people. And Twitter has that; if you look at your timeline, it's almost similar to the AOL chatroom.
Then it has it's own genius. Which is: Trends. The trending list on on the bottom left side of your page, is a combination of a newsfeed and a business generator. Businesses can easily look at what's trending in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, U.K and everywhere around the world to see what people like and make a business out of a clothing, or a item, or a certain something. The past social media sites don't have that. To me, that makes Twitter a distance first.
My favorite saying from Dorsey in this interview was when Logan asked him if he's ever worried about other competitions, and he beautifully and perfectly answered it by saying:
"Well, our take on this is you can worry about competition; you can constantly look in your rear view mirror, and you can constantly look around and really not notice the road ahead of you ... Or, you can focus on what's ahead of you and drive."
