Gardner having six homeruns in June is unimaginable. Every Yankee fan whose been a fan in the past five years know that Gardner is mostly a slap hitter. And if you told me he'd have six homers by June, I'd thought at least three of them would be inside the park.
If you're a baseball player like Granderson, this is the tough part of having a career in -- not just baseball but in sports in general. Because when you get injured, you're worried that someone else is gonna take your spot; and that's what's happening to him right now. Not just Gardner playing well at Granderson's position, the Yankee team is playing well without him. Then, you look at the type of player Gardner can be, IF, he continued this power surge -- he's a better defender; better at getting on base and he's younger. Gardner can potentially be the better all around player than Granderson is. Though, you can't go against Granderson's 40-homers.
If the Yankees had a crystal ball and knew Gardner would play this well, they'd probably would've traded Granderson in the offseason, since he's gonna be a free agent this coming offseason and the Yankees won't most likely resign him.
Once Granderson returns, because he will eventually, and Gardner is still having this type of season, it's gonna be tough for Joe Girardi to manage the lineup.
Let's see if Gardner can this up. Will he have a Jacoby Ellsbury 2011-type season? Well, 30-homers maybe stretching it.
