Knicks: Melo Can't Do It By Himself

I know he'd love to, but he can't. And that's not his fault.

Just because the New York Knicks are 2-4 to start off the season, fans/writers want to pick Carmelo Anthony apart. Most of it is because they're panicking from a 2-4 start, instead of the 6-0 start they had last season, and most of it is they forget to realize what type of team is build around him.

Can the Knicks still win and have a good season? Absolutely. But if you're looking for a championship this season, you're not gonna see one this team, unless they make a big trade, or another Jeremy Lin comes out of nowhere and sparks the team.

I'm not saying Anthony is perfect; he's got major flaws in being a leader. But he can't do it by himself. Even Kobe Bryant couldn't do it by himself; beside the three championships he won with Shaquille O'Neal, the two others he won without him he had Pau Gasol on his team. The Knicks don't have a Gasol on their team. Not saying Gasol is Bill Russell, but he's still pretty damn good enough to play along side with Bryant.

The way the NBA is built, you can't win a championship with one star player anymore. Oklahoma City Thunder has Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. The San Antonio Spurs have Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. And the Miami Heat has, well, you know who...

The Knicks and Anthony, are in need of a great point-guard. I love Raymond Felton, but he doesn't have the intangibility of what a Rajon Rondo, Tony Parker, Chris Paul bring into a team. Felton would be great if he played behind a great point-guard. He's better suited to come off the bench like what Bobby Jackson was for the Sacramento Kings in the early 2000's. As for him being the starting PG on this Knick team -- it's hard to win.

This Knick team misses Jason Kidd, miserably. They miss his clutch steals, passes and three-point shots. Also, most importantly, they miss Kidd's leadership. And with Tyson Chandler out, the Knicks have no leadership.

Anthony needs a great point-guard to facilitate him and the team, and, for to be not tripled-teamed on in every possession. If the Knicks have Rajon Rondo and Anthony on the floor, the opposing team would be running around, scattered. The Knicks would a pain for any team to handle if they had Rondo. Also, having Rondo, in my view, would be the missing piece for a complete team and a championship.
