Now, after signing Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran, you would think the Yankees are out of the Choo sweepstakes -- especially with an already crowed outfield of Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki and Vernon Wells. I have a feeling they're not.
Reports from the winter meetings in Orlando are that the Yankees are interested in listening to offers for both Suzuki and Gardner. Suzuki, we can understand, since he's older and more of an everyday player that most likely won't get to play that everyday role in 2014, with the signing of Ellsbury and Beltran. But when Yankee fans hear that Gardner might be dealt, they began to scratch their heads.
My reason to why I think the Yanks are trading Gardy (and Suzuki) is so they can sign Choo. The Yankees love Shin-Soo Choo, from the very beginning; I feel they like him more than Beltran and Ellsbury. Choo has the tools the Yankees look for and always liked in a player. Those tools are left-handed power and on-base percentage.
I'm guessing they want to trade Gardner and Ichiro, then sign Choo, to put him in right-field, then DH and platoon Beltran with Alfonso Soriano.
At first, I thought the Yankees would sign Choo and Beltran. And I think that might still happen.
