Movie Review: "American Hustle"

I've always dreamed about starring in certain movies -- like the "Godfather", "Catch Me If You Can", "Goodfellas". Now, you can put "American Hustle" to that list of mine.

I didn't expect much from American Hustle. I thought it was just one of those movies to fool people into buying because of the star-studded cast. Not the case. It was a good story (a true story) and the style it has from the 70s in NYC was freakin' cool. It made me wish I was living in the 70s. American Hustle had style, badassness, seriousness and comedy. Yes -- it was a funny movie.

American Hustle isn't, necessarily, an Academy Award winning script, in my view. It's a very good story. Loved the style of the 70s in New York City and the attitude. I enjoyed it. But it's not a best picture. It was a little to basic of a story to be Oscar winning. Although, as for the characters, if you ask me if they're award winning, a definite YES!

Let me start off with Christian Bale: He's going to be nominated for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role; I'm sure of that. A great performance by Bale, playing Irving Rosenfeld, a New Yorker whose a highly successful con man. He was brilliant; like he always is in all of his movies.

Bale's so much different than his past characters. That's what struck me with his performance; yes, another part it that amazes me is that he's English(from the U.K) and he sounded like a New Yorker who legitimately lived in NYC all of his life. But, his character as Irving Rosenfeld was unlike all his past bad-ass parts he's played -- on this movie he was a punk, cowardly type guy. Rosenfeld wanted so no trouble. That's un-Bale like.

Christian Bale wasn't Christian Bale in American Hustle. That's why I felt he did a tremendous job in this movie and as potential to be nominated for an Oscar for this role.

Jennifer Lawrence: The hype that you see and hear surrounding this girl, is real! Because she is the real deal. Jennifer Lawrence is pure badass as she played the wife of Bale's character, Rosalyn Rosenfeld.

She could win again. Lawrence could very win another Oscar. Not saying she will, but it's not impossible she could win best supporting actress, at the Golden Globes and at the Oscars.

Lawrence was just...simply, damn good in this movie. Theres no way to dissect why she was good -- she was just plain, ole fucking good. I see gold for her, on January 12th.

Bradley Cooper: Unlike Bale, Bradley Cooper was just Bradley Cooper in this picture, but still very good as he played Richie DiMaso. Liked him a lot. I could see him being nominated for supporting actor, but I don't see him winning. He should've won for "Sliver Linings Playbook", last year.

Amy Adams: She was okay. Amy Adams is a solid actress; one of the very best in this generation. But she was basic in American Hustle. Nothing special, really.

Jeremy Renner: Excellent. Might not get much attention because of the big names on front of him, but I thought he was great in his role as Major Carmine Polito.

Louis C.K: Funny! Louis C.K. and Cooper together was comedy gold in American Hustle. The chemistry between C.K. and Cooper was great. C.K played Stoddard Thorsen.

Award Prediction:

Bale wins Golden Globe (for sure) and probably wins Oscar, but definitely will be nominated for best leading role.

Lawrence probably wins a Golden Globe next week, and could -- COULD -- win another Oscar.
