I Like The New C.C.

Every Yankee post I made this season has been negative and good to finally give a positive post about them, and most importantly it's about a win.

Yankees finally break their six-game skid against the Baltimore Orioles, with a 7-0 win.

And from all the all the players that the media, fans and even myself pointed out that needed to produce, it was the former ace, C.C. Sabathia, who delievered in the clutch in this must-needed win for the Bombers.

How about that? Who would've thunk Sabathia would be the guy to come through big for the Yankees tonight. Forgetting that this was the guy a couple of years ago, who was looked at as the man to stop a losing skids like this.

Sabathia's pitched this game as to say: 'Don't forget about me!' Whenever the Yankees were in a losing streak from seasons 2009-2012 and Sabathia was to pitch the next game, that was the game we looked at as the game where the losing stops. Nowadays, as he's become the 5th starter on this rotation, we're happy if he goes five-innings with just allowing two runs!

Against this Orioles team, with the right-handed pop in their lineup and in Camden Yards, I didn't like our chances with Sabathia on the mound. At best, I figure he'd pitched a real competitive game and Yankees would still lose 3-1.

But I did not expect Sabathia to go seven complete inning, with 6 strikeouts and allowing no runs. An outstanding performance by the big man.

It was great to finally get a win, but it felt good to see Sabathia pitch this way. He pitched so well that I'm started to think maybe he found it. Maybe he can pitch with the stuff he has.

The one pitch that made him successful tonight, that got him those 6 K's, was the change-up. YES broadcaster Ken Singleton talked about how Sabathia was throwing the change-up with the same arm action and angle, he throws his fastball and slider. I think Singleton was right, because the strikeouts he was getting off these big bopping right-handers of the Orioles and the ground ball plays he got tonight, tells you how this O's were fooled.

We all know you don't need high velocity to succeed in the majors, as a pitcher. Go look at Greg Maddux. Or if you wanna look at a lefty in this generation whose dominant and doesn't throw hard, go watch Dallas Keuchel. You tell me if any of his fastballs rise up over 91-mph.

Cliff Lee was another lefty who didn't throw hard but was still dominant. But you know why he was dominant? Consistent arm action. Lee threw his fastball, cutter, change-up, curve, all in the same arm angle. And that's what you saw from Sabathia tonight.

Boy, if Sabathia can somehow recreate himself and become somewhat great again, that would be a blessing. And why can't he? This season so far, he's only allowed 3 runs in all of his games. Even against the Texas Rangers at Arlington, he pitched really. He might've found something.

Talk about a story, if C.C. can comeback to form after the end to the season he has last year.

AS FOR THE YANKEES 7-0 WIN

Okay, got one win. Now, they got Masahiro Tanaka pitching tomorrow, whose been pretty good too, and you win that game. Take one game at a time. The Yankees can't think about whose playing well in the division or what games they have next or this weekend -- win the game you're playing. They're 9-16, get to 10-16 tomorrow.
