NYC: Telephone Booths Turning Into a Charging Booths

Welcome to the future. The days of the dirty, tagged, broken down telephone booth that gave New York City that certain culture, will be soon disappearing. And will they be replacing with? Charging booth -- or at least that's what it'll be close to being called.

Now, this is nothing new or breaking news. We've been hearing for a while about charging booths replacing telephone booths, in New York City. But to actually see one for the time was pretty cool. This actually gives us a certain view of what the future will look like. And it's something that looks very futuristic.

This charging booth I found, was on Gramercy of Manhattan, New York, on 3rd ave and E 18th street.

I'm guessing it's not just to charge when your phone is at 51% and you feel like: 'Eh, what the hell, let me charge my phone because I'm bored'. No. It's for when your phone is at 1% or dead, and you have make an emergency call.

And I'm sure they're gonna charge us. No way this is free. Just like how we had to pay 50 cents for the pay phone.

Not one, but two USB jacks. So you might have to share it with someone else.

I kinda wish they have the charger there, instead of us having to carry our charger.

Hopefully they'll develop walls, in between the two people so you can have privacy while talking or texting.

Sad to see these telephone booths go. I think I might've used it once in my whole life. But hey, replacing it with charger booths so the people can charge their phones, is smart and the right thing to do. It's amazing why the city hasn't done it years ago. When your phone is at 1% and you're away from home and have to make a call, you just find the nearest booth. Situations like that makes sense to build more of these. Not freakin' Citi bikes! We don't need more of that!

Seeing that USB booth kinda made me vision what the future would look like years and years from now.
