Seems like talks between the Mets and Reds for Jay Bruce have been going on since last year's deadline. If so, it finally gets done today, as the Mets acquire Bruce from the Reds.
A perfect acquisition for the Mets -- why? Two reasons. He's got one more year left in his contract, making $13 million in 2017, but in 2017 he has an $1 million dollar buyout -- which is basically a million dollar release for the Mets.
And the other reason this deal gets better, is if Yoenis Cespedes opts out of his contract this offseason, the Mets could replace Bruce with Cespedes. Which I'm sure something Met fans don't wanna hear.
What kinda hitter is Queens getting in Citi Field? Check out Bruce's six homerun in fives games in late July.
