Should A-Rod & Teixeira Join Michael Kay in the Booth?

Once Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez officially retire, why not they join YES Network broadcaster Michael Kay, and become the next Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez.

Yesterday, when we got the news that first baseman Mark Teixeira will retire after this season, I started to wonder if he'll become a television personally. For instance become an analyst for the MLB Network or Fox Sports.

But then I thought -- how about Teixeira joining the YES Network. And not just become a postgame analyst, but be in the booth with Michael Kay.

I already know Teixeira is very smart, well spoken, knows a lot about the game; he can do great work when it comes to discussing defense, since he's a great defender himself. But he's also very funny.

I immediately thought Teixeira -- with his funny personality -- could become what Keith Hernandez is in the Mets/SNY booth. Hernandez is also a very smart baseball mind, but he also has this comedic, arrogance about him that everyone loves. And I can view that with Teixeira; he's a smart, clean cut guy that can be goofy.

Also Teixeira and Hernandez have this tone of voice, where every word has to sound perfect. I always felt Hernandez sounds like Geraldo Rivera. Almost like a newscaster who has this funny personality, but doesn't really know he's funny. And that's what you put on television if you're a producer; you televise unique personality.

The saying of first basemen who love to talk a lot to the runner on first base, has something to it. Former players always say they're first basemen who love to start conversations.

Then you have Alex Rodriguez who I view as Ron Darling. If you listen or watch Darling analyze the game, he's sensational. Very cerebral, articulate, smooth, and I'm not saying A-Rod is Darling when it comes to talking baseball, but I believe he can be.

A-Rod is excellent at talking baseball; like Darling, he brings up the little details about a pitcher know one brings up. Even though Darling was a former pitcher and A-Rod isn't, but A-Rod knows a lot about pitcher because he's off almost very big name pitcher and seen every pitch in the history of baseball.

It isn't fair to compare A-Rod to Darling, since Darling has had years of experience on front of the camera, although I really do believe A-Rod can be that good in the booth.

They both (A-Rod & Darling) have this charm about them. Very suited up, charming personalities, but when it comes to talking baseball, they get real deep in it.

I hate to bring up this idea of having Teixeira and A-Rod as YES broadcasters, because they're other broadcasters who do this for a living and you don't want them losing their job for two millionaires, but when you look what the Mets have with Hernandez, Darling and Gary Cohen, I want the Yankees booth to be like those guys.

I'm a Yankee fan and sometimes watch the Mets, even when they're losing, just so I can hear Cohen, Hernandez and Darling. They're just freakin' amazing at what they do. That is a gifted threesome; probably the best broadcasting booth in all of baseball.

The Yankee organization should be in peace with their relationship with A-Rod. Because his baseball playing career is officially over, he's gonna be on television. And if the Yankees wanna sustain their popularity, like they're always trying to do to with fashion and celebrities, I would look into signing A-Rod into a television deal. I know they've given him a ton of money already (lol), though he's closest thing to Derek Jeter when it comes to being a mainstream athlete. A-Rod will bring non-baseball people to watch YES. People who know him because they seen him on Access Hollywood, will watch Yankee game if they see him.
