Jay-Z featuring Fox Brown - "Ain't No" took place in 1996; twenty years ago. And I have a slight connection with this video; nothing big, like if I was part of the production of the video. There was no way since I was about 9-years-old when this video was released.
But there's some connection with myself and "Ain't No". If you stop the video at 3:02, the guy you see behind Foxy Brown use to be my barber from the neighborhood. And of course, he was Jay-Z's personal barber.
He was one of the best barbers in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. On Thursdays his barbershop would packed with customers. At times, he'd outnumber his co-workers with customers. If you wanted to get a haircut from him on Thursdays or Fridays, you had to get to the shop early. If not, you were gonna have to wait there a long, long time; not only because he had a long line of customer, but he would take about an hour to cut your hair. He was a perfectionist when it came to cutting your hair.
It's a reason why Jay-Z made him his personal barber.
The barber was also very close to my brother. And my brother too, knew Jay-Z. With my brother close friends with the barber and the barber being Jay-Z's personal barber, my brother had a chance to be in the production of this video. He was asked to go to Miami, where "Ain't No" was shot. But declined to go.
It sucks that he didn't go, because I always remind him how he could've probably taken a photo with both Jay-Z AND Biggie Smalls, which would've been rare have. It's already kinda rare to see Jay-Z and Biggie in a video as it is.
And taken a photo with Foxy Brown, too. Who is one of the greatest female rappers of all-time.
