Yankees: Striking Out Looking on Outfielders

January 25, 2013

Josh Hamilton - gone.

Michael Morse - gone.

Scott Hairston - gone.

Justin Upton - gone.

Is there anything left?

The New York Yankees are in desperate need of a right-handed power bat; now, more than ever.

The Yankees are leaning on the shoulders of Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira (if he's facing a lefty) and Kevin Youkilis for right-handed power. That may seem enough, but it really isn't.

The only right-handed bat left that could help the Yankees in the trade market, is Alfonso Soriano. And with the recent acquisitions the Chicago Cubs made from signing free agents Edwin Jackson and Scott Hairston, why would they trade their best hitter now.

Yankees aren't getting Michael Bourn. Would he improve the defense in the outfield? Yea. But we need power in the outfield and he's a lefty. If he landed on the Yankees lap for cheap, maybe, I can see the Yankees taking a chance on him for one-year contract. It wouldn't hurt. Though, that's if the Yankees don't find anybody.

Carlos Beltran: I read somewhere that the St.Louis Cardinals would listen to offers for their outfielder and former New York Met, Carlos Beltran.

He would be what the Yankees need for this season coming, but I don't see the Cardinals doing it. Because he's their best hitter, and they simply don't need to trade him. If they fell out of the race early in the season, then I can them trading him, since he'll be a free agent after this season.

Beltran would love to come to the Yankees. He wanted to come here when he hit free agency in 2004. But since the Yankees were focused on strictly pitching when they traded for Randy Johnson and signed Carl Pavano, he went on to sign with the Mets.

If the Cards wanted to trade Beltran now, Yankees could just offer Phil Hughes. That, could, get the deal done.

It all depends on the Cardinals if they want to trade him or not. And they don't have to.
