When he was a Mad employee, I use to vision Sasso on SNL after he was done with Mad TV -- or decided to move on from there. Never happened. It should've.
Sasso, to me, was/is the most underrated improv comedian, actors I've ever seen. The things he did at Mad TV were pure gold; from impersonations of Tony Sporano(which is the best I've ever seen), Steven Seagal, Stone Cold Steve Austin, etc -- he was simply outstanding. He was Mad TV's Chris Farley, in the 90's. Sasso was this chubby guy who crashed, jump, flew all over the place. Sometimes he was a one-man show.
Would Lorne Michaels be interested in Sasso?:
Probably not, since Lorne and SNL are looking for younger improvs. But...would it hurt?
Sasso is 38. Would Lorne be willing to sign a 38-year old? I mean, this isn't fucking sports where a 38-year old player would be a bad signing. It's an actor. And he's proven. The guy knows the stage.
In the upcoming season of SNL, they will be without Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis. Those are big names that won't be part of SNL, anymore. Those prominent male stars who were the backbone for years. But someone like Sasso being on SNL, would help for those missing male stars. People who are in their 20's who use to watch Mad TV will be interested in watching SNL, is Sasso is on there.
Lorne and the entire SNL group need to seriously talk about adding Sasso. I know they would usually go for the younger guy, but this is different. Sasso is a rare talent you won't find anywhere. A guy who can be their Chris Farley.
Again -- can it hurt?
