As we hit July 1st today, we are now 30-days away from the MLB Trade Deadline, and only 30-days left for the Yankees getting a bat.
Just because it was done last year, doesn't mean it could happend again -- but, since the New York Yankees are in Minnesota to face the Twins in a four-game set, could Yankee GM Brian Cashman make an easy negotiation with the Twins front office and acquire Justin Morneau this week...
You may remember last year, when the Yankees went to Seattle to face the Mariners, they acquired Ichiro Suzuki. All Suzuki had to do was change locker rooms.
And Cashman could've done this twice. Remember Cliff Lee? In 2010, the Yankees, again, went to Seattle for a west coast road trip, and almost acquired Lee. If that'd happen, all Lee had to do was changer locker rooms.
But if were to be done this time, it would be at Minnesota -- not Seattle.
Can Cashman acquire Morneau this week, at his own home team? He's almost done it to two players.
Morneau has been in many trade rumors, linked to the Yankees, due to the injury of Mark Teixeira.
With Alex Rodriguez starting rehab games this Tuesday, and Curtis Granderson coming back soon, a lineup with A-Rod, Grandy and Morneau, then you follow that with Derek Jeter coming back, Yankees will look like the Yankees again.
UPDATED on July 12th:
Posted this story last week when the Yankees went to Minnesota for a four-game series. Now tonight, the Twins come to Yankee Stadium for a three-game set to end the first half of the season. Can the Yankees and Twins work out a deal for Morneau, THIS weekend?
With Travis Hafner struggling a now injured -- but not badly injured -- could the Yankees look into acquiring Morneau with the Twins in town. I think they need to. But they'll probably won't do it since they might have to leave the DH spot open.
